| Also,
in the video there is audio of Hugo Chavez addressing the marchers as they
arrive in Parque Central, Caracas. He makes a reference to El Pacto de Punto
Fijo, and how one significance of February 4 is laying that Pact of Punto
Fijo to rest. The Pact was signed on October 31st, 1958. It brought an end
to the dictatorship of Marcos Perez Jimenez and brought "democracy"
to Venezuela. The great limiting factor of this pact was that it restricted
participation in electoral politics in Venezuela to two elite parties, excluding
all others. The "death" of el Pacto de Punto Fijo has allowed
for Chavez's new MVR party to participate and for more participatory democratic
processes to develop in Venezuela. To read up on this yourself just Google
"el Pacto de Punto Fijo". .................................................................................................. |
